Kaitlynn Weekly Email - Coyhaique, land of miracles
Snapshot
Major transition: Kaitlynn is now a trainer and has moved to Coyhaique in the Andes of Patagonia. Describes it as "the land of miracles" because hermanas haven't served there in about 8 years. Her trainee: Hermana Juncker. In four days they already have multiple baptismal dates. Covers several weeks of silence with an opening apology in Spanish.
Opening (translated from Spanish)
"Excuse me if you haven't received an email for a little while, it's not because I don't love you, it's just because I don't have time."
Week Highlights
- Transfer call: Kaitlynn called as a trainer; moved to Coyhaique.
- Where Coyhaique is: middle of the Andes mountains, in Patagonia. "Imagine the Utah mountains, add Chileans, Germans, and 2 small Chinese malls."
- Why it's the land of miracles: hermanas hadn't served in Coyhaique for approximately 8 years. They are among the first hermanas back.
- Hermana Juncker arrived Wednesday as her trainee. "I had a beautiful baby girl."
- Moved to the new house Thursday; flights delayed 2 hours.
- The house previously occupied by elders "for eons" - deep cleaning in progress.
- Arrived with 1 baptismal fecha already. Put a fecha their second day. Plans for 2 more. Four days in.
- Sunday: played piano in sacrament. Lunch with the rama [branch] president.
- "La Cena" [The Dinner] - a Coyhaique tradition; a large zone gathering with an enormous amount of juice. "Literally the biggest amount of jugo you could ever imagine." Making tacos. "Me and Carlos are 90% friends (iykyk)."
- Invited a grandmother from Chiloé to be baptized; she was already a member. Sending her number to Chiloé anyway.
Spiritual Thought - 100% Responsible
"Never ever judge someone on how they look, everyone is a child of God and they have a story you don't know. God knows and loves them and so it's part of your job to know and love them too." Recommends "Be 100% Responsible" (Lynn G. Robbins, BYU devotional) and "Press On" (GC Oct 2004).
People
- Hermana Juncker - first trainee ("mi hija" / "mi guagüita" [Chilean: my baby]); described as "a machine."
- Carlos - Coyhaique member or contact; "90% friends" with Kaitlynn (reference to La Cena).
Places
- Coyhaique - third field area. Capital of the Aysén Region; Chilean Patagonia.
Notes
- Hashtags she uses: #FEMHAYQUE (femeninas + Coyhaique), #NOTENGAMIEDODEBAUTIZAR [I'm not afraid to baptize], #MIGUAGUITAESUNAMAQUINA [My little one is a machine].
