Monday Evening Call with You, July 27, 2026
We talked again for about twenty-one minutes that evening, Mom and I both on from home. This is the call where you showed us your flight home.
Your day
You came on mid-joke with someone in the room and apologized for throwing us off with the time change between last week and this week. You said your day was super chill and you really did not do anything, which you said was good for you because you are always doing something, so now you are finally free.
After we hung up in the morning you finished cleaning. You said "I cleaned the house so good, and I'm so happy. I love it when the house is clean." Then homemade lunch, made by your companion. Then the mall for her shoes, which you found. They are not waterproof. They were a gift from a member who bought them on the Paris website and picked them up at the store.
You were supposed to get blood test results back, but the place closed before you got there.
The money you gave up on
You went to the office and worried about money again. You still cannot find the missing gap, so you gave up: you handed all your records and all the money to the elders. You counted it three more times and got three different numbers. You said you might owe the church about three hundred dollars, but that it is okay, God bless us.
Mom asked how far negative you were and you said the gap was around twenty dollars each time, and that it is actually not that much. She asked how much you started with and you said four hundred. You said you do not know where the math went wrong, they will figure it out, and everything is okay.
My day, and the campsite
You asked about our day. Mine was boring: I was in an incident at work for about six hours and then was burned out from it the rest of the day, so I just did little things until it was over. Then I reserved a campsite for a trip with Bryson and Mason, August 5th to 7th. You asked whether you were included, and I said well, yes, and you, so if you can make it. You said "Done. I'll see you next..." and I told you to come on over.
Your flight home
Then you said "Look at this. Actually, this is going to blow your mind," and put your email on the screen.
Mom asked whether SCL was yours. You said you think that is Santiago, an overnight flight, Santiago to Atlanta, and then Atlanta to Salt Lake. And then you said it: "So I will be getting to Salt Lake at 10 am on the 24th of September. That's where my plane lands. So I'll probably be walking out around 10:30 am."
Mom said "Wow, that makes it feel real." You said "Right?"
You read the rest out: you leave Wednesday night at 8:40, you are in the States Thursday morning at 5:00, and you have a layover of about two hours before the Atlanta to Salt Lake leg. You said you are just not going to sleep. I told you that is such a long flight and you are going to be so tired, and I asked you to forward it to Mom and me. You asked whether there was anyone else or a different address, and I said no, that is good.
You said you do not know why you have your itinerary and you do not think your companion got hers, which you said is funny: they are just picking the people who are the least stinky. You said you were supposed to do your plan that day and did not, so it moves to tomorrow.
Mom said "Okay. I just made a calendar event so that we could show up for it." You said that would be nice. Then all three of us circled the same thing a few different ways: that it makes it real, and that it does not feel real. You said it really does not.
Tell Natalie hi
You asked us to tell Natalie hi tomorrow. Mom said "If she'll ever talk to us," and you repeated it back to her. I explained that they moved Natalie's travel day onto her P-day, so we will not get to talk to her: she will be flying and getting settled. The original flight out was Wednesday and Tuesday was her P-day for packing, and then they moved the flight to Tuesday. Mom said we will not get to talk to her next week either.
Driving past the MTC
You told us it is really funny that when you worked at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo you would pass the MTC and there were always so many missionaries waiting at the bus stop, getting ready to go. You said every time you thought "Man, that's never going to be me," and "I'm not going on the mission. It's not happening." And then: "Look at me now."
You pointed out you were always driving past at around 4:50 in the morning. Mom said you would have seen them since you went in so early, and then asked why you did not want to go on a mission. You said "One second. I'll be back," and left. We never got the answer.
Oompa Loompa
When you came back you said "Thank you, I feel very welcome," and asked whether we ever feel like you look like an Oompa Loompa. I said nope. Not even in the least bit. That it has never crossed my mind. You said "That's too bad."
The email addresses
You spent a long stretch trying to copy and paste a list of email addresses into a message and it would not take. You told us my dad is a tech guy so he can figure this out, and showed us the list. Somebody in the room with you was struggling with it too. We did not solve it.
Somewhere in there I told you I need a hair transplant, and that maybe instead of Hawaii we will go to Turkey.
Natalie's layover
Mom asked whether you think Natalie will get to call from her layovers tomorrow. You said she should: they should give her a second to call and say she made it safely, and if not, to send a text. You said that is what they did with all the new missionaries in your mission.
When you landed in Chile
You asked whether Bryson was able to call or send a message when he arrived, and I could not remember. Mom said she remembers meeting Hermana Snowder, and that she can never say her name right. She said she remembers seeing your face, and that you were super stressed. You said "I didn't know what was going on. I was so ready to die." Mom said "They were speaking Spanish and you're just like, 'What?'"
Small things
You said you do not know what to wear tomorrow and thinking about it makes you stressed, so you are leaving it: "That's not a today need problem." Mom asked whether you were going to coordinate matching outfits with your companion and you said that would be fun.
You apologized for not sending an email that day or replying to ours. Mom said as long as you read ours, and she did. You said you really appreciate our emails and wish you were better at answering them, but you did send one to President that day. Mom told you we do not email you so that you will email us.
The couples mission
You said that when we are on our mission you will send us emails, and asked whether we are going on a couples mission. Mom said yes, but that we will only call you from our bed, just like the grandparents did, and then did the impression. You said you thought it was their couch. Mom said no, that was centered, it was more like this, and that they liked laying down, which made it even more so. You said "At that point they liked each other. That's good. Or did they not like each other? It was just like friends with benefits." Mom said "Probably that one."
Close
Mom asked whether you were going to end on that note, and then said: "I hope you have a wonderful week. So much fun. Embrace the snow. Embrace your life. You're in such an amazing time of your life. Amazing opportunity. It is so good."
You said "I will. I love you guys. Thanks for helping me get here on the mission and for supporting me through it all and giving me all of the advice that I've ever needed in the whole world." Mom said "Ever wanted, ever needed," and you said it back to her, and told us to sleep well and have the best week. Mom got the last word in with "Friends with benefits." I said I love you, bye.
